What should have been an exciting night for a high school marching band in Austin, TX, ended up with two buses being hit by a suspected drunk driver. On Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, two buses bringing home high school band students were hit by another driver. Luckily, no students suffered serious injuries, but the incident left many of the students shaken. One of your Dallas, TX, personal injury attorneys, Quentin Brogdon, discusses the charges being pursued in this motor vehicle wreck.
The Events Of The Accident
Two Austin ISD school buses were bringing band students back to campus after the night of their biggest football game of the year. While on the way home, a driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol hit the side of one school bus, and then hit the other one head on. Fortunately, all injuries following this incident were not severe as far as we know. The suspect did admit to drinking an alcoholic beverage several hours earlier but made no claims of drinking right before the wreck. Results from the suspect’s blood test are not yet available, so at this time it is unknown if the accident occurred while her blood alcohol concentration exceeded the legal limit.
Pursuing Charges Against The Driver
Although the blood alcohol test results have not been shared with the public yet, the first responders on the case had reason to believe that the suspect was under the influence. The driver did not have any prior I incidents of this nature, but it will be up to prosecutors to determine if the suspect is charged with a misdemeanor or felony. In comparison to a felony charge, this will be a shorter sentencing. Quentin Brogdon stated in an interview about this case that a felony charge may not be possible because, “there’s no appearance, at least of serious bodily injury.”
Drunk Driving Accidents In Texas
